Soccer is a game of ball control, and requires a great deal of foot and eye coordination. It is our philosophy that the best way to teach soccer skills to younger plays (often easier for older players too) is to play soccer games - not to be confused with simply "playing a soccer game". Each "Game" can be modified to meet your players / teams specific need. Build upon each game - add a new twist - remember to keep it fun, keep it simple and keep it focused on increasing skills.
Examples of some practice skill games of soccer are listed to the right and below. Each Games has a brief notation about what that particular skill game promotes. Click on the name to view a description of that game / skill.
Keep Your Head Up ( - U10) A method to be sure your players are looking up!
Alligators (U8 - U18) Dribbling and Tackling Drill
Dribble (U8 - U18) A great game that teaches dribbling and how to use the bottom of the foot and the outside of the foot to stop the ball and turn. Easy set-up & everyone has a ball. This is also a great warm-up to start practice. This is 10 times better than dribbling through cones & is a good way to evaluate dribbling skill.
Footwork (U8 - U18) Teaches footwork & use of outside-of-foot to control the ball
Multi Skills (U8 - U18) This game is much more fun than regular keep away or "Monkey in the Middle", set-up is easy, there is constant movement & many touches. My team loves this game.
Quick Pass (U8 - U18) Teaches quick & accurate passing.
Scissors (U8 - U18) This is one part of a feint called the "Scissors"; the other part is like the "Push & Blast Off Game".
